Steeple Langford Cricket Club Quick History

Steeple Langford CC was formed in 1956 and played the first game on 18th May 1957 against Edwards Bros of Salisbury. Home has always been the Recreation field in Steeple Langford generously donated by The Andrews family. The early wooden pavilions provided changing only, so tea was always taken in the village hall in Hanging Langford.

The club played friendly fixtures on both Saturdays and Sundays until the early 70's when the decision was taken to enter the Salisbury and District League. This was short lived (one season) as the league folded due to lack of numbers and the remaining clubs were invited to join the Hampshire League.

Steeple Langford HistoryThe club has enjoyed Hampshire League status ever since playing happily in the South West regional divisions on Saturday afternoons. A full friendly fixture list on Sundays allows all abilities and ages to play cricket for the club. The club has also played Twenty20 evening cricket for many years in various Local competitions.

Back in 2000 the club made the decision to start a junior section. This was done primarily to ensure the future of the club to help boost a dwindling and aging membership. In 2006 we were awarded by the ECB Club Mark Accreditation. This means that the club has met all the ECB Club Mark criteria and proved that it provides a safe well structured and organized environment using qualified CRB checked coaches whilst ensuring the safety and well being of the children at all times. Following shortly after this the club gained WASP level 3 (Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Partnership) accreditation by working very closely with Salisbury District Council community initiatives team.

As recognition at the success of the clubs junior section and the part it plays in helping Wiltshire Cricket in delivering cricket into the community the club was awarded ECB Focus Club status for 2008 season. No mean achievement for such a small village club, we are one of only 19 clubs in the whole of Wiltshire with this Focus club status.

User groups include the Cricket, Football and Tennis clubs, Parish Council and Sports & Social Club members.

The Clubhouse comprises of a main clubroom with licensed bar with Satellite TV and has access to Wifi, two changing rooms and separate shower room.

The square has 11 grass pitches and a refurbished artificial pitch (June 2005). The artificial pitch is used for U11 and 13 games and adult Twenty/20 games as well as practice incorporating a portable net bay.

We now host both County and district games at Steeple Langford along with the Old Sarum Invitation League KO Cup final in August.

We also have a double net bay with artificial ends for both coaching and practice.

The clubs development committee has worked very hard over the past few years, working towards building a strong adult section, improving both the playing and social facilities at the club as well as being fully committed to developing the junior section.

We are committed to promoting the club and cricket within the local community by delivering coaching and competitive opportunities in cricket for all its members adult and junior whilst maintaining a friendly and sociable atmosphere at all times.
