A belated review of the Season Finale!
A long summer of rain came to a close in the warm sunshine of Steeple Langford on Saturday to celebrations of a double championship win for the club, with both the first and second teams winning their respective leagues!
This time two seasons ago, it was all doom and gloom as the club suffered complete opposite fortunes as both sides were relegated with only 3 wins between them. However, since then the club has gone from strength to strength! The 1st XI bounced straight back with an unbeaten season during their 2011 campaign and have shot up through RDNW2 in style, losing just one game all season! They have seen some great individual performances as Tom Bennett has been Mr Reliable with the bat and Luke Stephens has looked great with the ball. However, these two have had their feet up the past couple of weeks, as 3 weeks running they’ve had their games called off due to poor weather! This managed to take them over the line, much to the delight of everyone at the club.
In stark contrast, a young 2nd XI have had to work hard to catch up on lost ground due to a sticky patch at the start of the season. Last week’s win put them top of the pile of RDNW4 going into the final game against Alderholt II, who had been top for most of the season, and the winner of the game would come out with the title. With this in mind, skipper Darren Harvey won the toss and elected to bowl. Some tight bowling from Gary Smith (1-4 off 7.2 overs) and Nick Partridge (4-27) restricted the visitors early on, and they were always on the back foot from there. Looking to score quick runs, Dan Bennett managed to remove 2 in one over after drinks to bring a flurry of wickets. Darren Harvey chipped in with 2-15 and Alderholt were bowled out for 114.
Langford lost early wickets in their reply, but a steady innings from club chairman, Andy Foyle, playing in his usual anchor, assisted by a cameo from Harvey, led his side over the line to send Langford to victory and the club’s 2nd league title of the day!
Sat 2nd July 11
Steeple Langford 1st XI 193 for 9(23) v Mottisfont 78 for 10(7)
Langford hosted 3rd placed Mottisfont on Saturday and didn’t get off to the best of starts when captain, Tom Dennis, lost the toss and was asked to bat on a dry hard wicket, showing signs of wear which was going to offer a bit for the bowlers late on.
After losing Stuart Partridge early on, Phil Tompkins arrived at the crease and supported Tom Bennett well, who scored quickly and reached a well deserved 50 at drinks with Langford well set on 93 for 1. However, shortly after drinks Bennett went after a half tracker, top edging it to backward point and departed with 52. Chris Mundy then hauled out to short midwicket for 17 and Martin Grearson supported Tompkins to his 50 before Tompkins was trapped LBW for 58. Langford then lost a couple of quick wickets to questionable umpiring decisions, slowing their momentum. However, Captain Dennis led a late flurry with Paddy Goodman 11 which saw Langford finish on 193 for 9 at tea, thought to be 30-40 runs short by most the camp.
After tea, Dennis rallied his troops and instructed the team to keep their focus and discipline in order to win the game. This rallying cry was answered as Gary Smith struck early to remove the opener. This meant Mottisfont never really gained any momentum, and wickets fell regularly, Smith claiming 4-36 and Luke Stephens 5-25. Mark Thompson chipped in with 1-9 off his three overs to see Langford to what turned out to be a convincing victory after only 26.4 overs, keeping Langford firmly rooted to the top of the table.
The 2nds, however, suffered their 2nd defeat of the season after travelling to Berwick St James to face Shrewton III. Darren Harvey’s side were bowled out by the final ball of their innings, scoring 169. However, it wasn’t enough as their opposition knocked it off easily, meaning Langford II drop a place to 3rd in the table.
The planned 10 weeks coaching sessions come to an end this Wednesday 29th June. I hope everyone has enjoyed the sessions and remain keen to continue playing cricket.
As a thank you for good attendance and behaviour the committee has decided to hold a colts fun cricket festival on the following Wednesday the 6th July.
We would like to invite all U9, 11 and 13's to turn up and join in. We intend to mix up everyone into even teams called after an International country.
Members of the U15's will manage the teams and hopefully umpire and score giving the coaches an evening off!
Rules will be Kwik cricket played with a tennis ball. We will be playing several games at once around the field.
Could I ask that we aim for 6:15 start or as close as we can so hopefully we get organised and start at 6:30 never having done this before we are not too sure how long it will take.
Enjoy.
Regards Andy

Breamore 181 for 7(8) - Steeple Langford 182 for 4(22)
Welcoming Breamore to Steeple Langford skipper Tom Dennis won the toss and elected to field on what started an overcast day by the lakes.
Opener Chris Mundy (1-29) provided the initial breakthrough thanks to a stunning catch by keeper Pete Smith with the score at 21 from 7 overs. Luke Stephens (1-25) picked up the second in the 17th over, but Langford started to find wickets as hard to accumulate as Breamore were runs. Spinner Tom Bennett was therefore introduced and his 3-56 made some headway into the Breamore order. And with a smart run out and a wicket for Phil Thompkins (1-1), Breamore were restricted to 181-7 from their 42 overs.
In reply Steeple Langford lost opener Nick Mundy early on but his partner Stuart Partridge (40) continued to add runs to the total, when he eventually fell the score was 58-2 from 19 overs. Simon Ford and Martin Grearson then produced breezy displays but were eventually bowled for 18 and 17 respectively. Steeple Langford now slipping behind the required rate needed some big hitting and Gary Smith did not disappoint as he hit 31 not out from 13 balls along to support the steady Phil Tompkins who produced a brilliant 51* to bring the home side up to the target with 3 overs to spare, and so picking up 22 points.
18th June 2011
A complete wash out this weekend for both teams lets hope for sun next week.
11th June 2011
East Tytherley II 122 all out Steeple Langford II 124 for 7
East Tythlerley won the toss and elected to bat on a dry pitch and they were soon in trouble with a very good opening bowling spell by Mark Thompson(2-23) and Darren Harvey(2-31) restricting Tytherley to 23 for 3 from the first 10 overs. J.Snell (38) and P.Matthews (22) scored a very good 46 for the next wicket, taking the score to 69 when Snell fell, bowled by Nick Partridge (4-21) and with Adam Dhanji (1-14) picking up S.Lind (24) wicket Tytherley were on the edge on 73 for 5. In came J.Lovell who hit 23 not out and pushed the score to 120. Nick Partridge came back into the attack but this time as a spinner and Trevor Thompson had him stumped the last 4 wickets fell for 2 runs and the innings was over with the score on 122 for 9 all out as East Tytherley had 10 players.
After tea the record breaking openers, Clive Perry and Dan Bennett, but a repeat performance was not on the cards, Perry going for 20 and Bennett out quickly being caught in the slips of R.Barlow (3-27). Perry soon followed and Harvey was riding his luck being dropped four times in his innings of 32. Two quick wickets of Andy Foyle and Sam Perry left Langford in trouble at 53-4. Cameos from Mark Thompson 12, Tom Dhanji 10 and Nick Partridge 21 not out took Langford to 120 for 6 and with Harvey retiring hurt, Trevor Thompson came in and tucked away the his first ball of his pads for the winning 4. Skipper Merrick took 2 -37 in a good spell.
11th June 2011
Steeple Langford I-153 for 3 vs Hursley Park 152 for 7
On a patchy afternoon in Steeple Langford the toss was conceded by skipper Tom Dennis and Langford took to the field.
Looking to make inroads in to the Hursley park batting order the opening bowlers found it tough going and when a break through eventually came via a run out Hursley Park were 53-1 after the 28th over.
Another run out accounted for the second wicket soon after but Hursley were determined to protect their wickets and Gary Smith 2-26-8 and Simon Ford 2-27-5 were the only highlights as Hursley 4ths posted for 152-7 from their 42 overs.
Steeple Langford's reply began well with the inform fall of Stuart Partridge (29) and Tom Bennett (31) putting on 59 for the first wicket.
A breezy 34 from Simon Ford brought Langford within reach of the line but when he was dismissed with the score 113-3 it was left to Phil Tompkins to cross the line for Langford moments before the rain.
6 June 2011
On a hot afternoon in Hungerford, Steeple Langford captain Tom Dennis lost the toss and his side were put in on what looked a wonderful batting track.
Steeple Langford's opening pair took their time and looked steady early in the innings but the returning Tom Stobbs was sent back to a pavilion leaving them 52-1 in the 11th over. Gary Smith then contributed a quick fire 22 before being run out off the bowlers boot whilst backing up. Martin Grearson then came to the crease, and put together a partnership of 153 with Stuart Partridge and began to take the game away from the home team before Grearson eventually fell for 89 with the score at 277 off 32 overs.
The 36th over saw the eventual downfall of Stuart Partridge for a season best of 133, but a partnership of 66 from Tom Bennett (60*) and Tom Dennis (17*) ensured Hungerford were set a massive 378.
The reply for the home side did not start well finding themselves 25-3 from 8 overs, after a good spell of bowling from openers Chris Mundy (1-37) and Gary Smith (2-32).
However Steeple Langford did find some resistance in the middle order until breakthroughs were made by Luke Stephens (2-36) and youngster Patrick Goodman who produced an exceptional 4-16 to leave Chris Miles to finish the Hungerford innings a full 243 runs behind and ensure Langford 24 points.

Hampshire League Regional Division 4 North West
S/Langford II 460 for 2 Wherwell II 244 all out
S/langford II 24 points Wherwell II 8 points
Steeple Langford I returned from their game against Hungerford having score 397 found they had been outdone by their second eleven. Two Hampshire League records were broken the highest ever score by a team and the highest ever starting partnership. Steeple Langford won the toss and decided to bat first. Clive Perry and Dan Bennett opened and started to hit bounderies straight away scoring at a rate of 9 an over. The pair brought up the 100 partnership in only the 11th over and a huge score was on the cards. Bennet reached his 50 first and Perry soon followed. They carried on hitting 4s and 6s at will and the 200 was on the board in the 19th over, by which time Bennett had hit his century. The score board was racing along and the 300 was up in the 26th with the pair scoring at 10 an over. Bennett then reached his 200 and Perry passed 150. Their wickets fell quickly with the score on 397, Bennett was caught off the bowling Matt Allen for 211 and Perry soon followed on 173. Langford finally finishing on 460 for 2. TM.Allen bowled well his 9 overs going for just 53 for 2 wickets. After tea Langford was looking for quick wickets but Wherwells openers started well and hit the bad balls for 4 and a lot of extra's were given. Darren Harvey came onto bowl in the 11th over with the score on 72 and soon took the wicket of Beccingham ct and bowled for a fine knock of 38. Two more wickets by Harvey and Sam Perry dismissing Harris for 4 left Wherwell on 118 for 4. Nick Partridge came back and picked up two quick wickets . A stand of 86 between Griffin and Whyton frustrated Langford but Mark Thompson got the breakthrough with Langford finishing off the game leaving Wherwell on 244 all out.
RDNW2 - 1st XI beat Godshill
On a drizzly Saturday in Steeple Langford, a fine spell of bowling from Luke Stephens helped to secure a win for the 1st XI after Godshill put them under pressure in the field.
Captain Tom Dennis lost the toss and his side were put into bat.
After losing Nick Mundy early on for a duck, everyone began to chip in with runs, despite there being a steady flow of wickets throughout the day. Simon Ford's 47 was a highlight as Langford were dismissed for a competitive 215 with 4 balls of the 42nd over remaining.
In reply Godshill started well reaching 62 before the loss of their first wicket at 15 overs after a good diving catch at mid-off by skipper Tom Dennis. However, Langford soon began to get a foothold as Simon Ford took a magnificent one handed catch to outdone Dennis and provide Gary Smith with his 2nd wicket (2-30). Luke Stephens provided a good spell of bowling (4-29) as he set young Nick Partridge up (2-7) to finish the job in style as Langford picked up all 24 points on offer.

28th May
Winterslow II 221 for 6(22) v S/Langford II 182 for 6(9) Winterslow II winning by 39 runs
Langford won toss and asked Winterslow to bat on a very overcast and windy day. Looking for early wickets it was the openers who had the better start hitting 35 in the first six overs. Mark Thompson bowling for Langford was unlucky not to take a wicket with a drop catch in the slips. Chris Miles and Darren Harvey came on and started to tie the batsmen down with some good tight bowling with Harvey picking up 2 wickets in his 5 overs. However rain was always a risk and as it had started to spot with rain with about 12 overs to go it was decided to have an early tea and hope it would clear up. With the rain stopped and tea taken the match started again and Winterslow started to score some quick runs, young Bolem scored 37 and the opener Foreman finally going for 90 were pushing the score along. Adam Mcneilly bowled very well and took 2 for 47 but Hatchet came in and scored a quick 20 which took the score to 221.
Langford needed one of their quick starts but this time lost Clive Perry for a duck so it was down to Charlie Burrows and Andy Foyle to get the team going. However with all the rain the outfield had become slow and what earlier would have been a 4 were now only 2's and 3's. Burrows had to retire on 23 with injury and in came Harvey to join Foyle who set about chasing the total neeeded. Foyle then fell to Harding for a good 51 who then quickly removeed Miles for 1. Sam Perry came in and played some lovely shots over the top as the fielders came in close. With Langford needing upto 8+ an over Harvey fell for 45 to P.Bolen and that was the last chance of winning the game as it was getting harder to see the ball.
14th May 2011
Steeple Langford I (180 for 7 - 24 points) won by three wickets against Over Wallop (179 all out) League RD2NW 14/05/2011
Steeple Langford won the toss and put the opposition in to bat on a day that could see some rain in the latter stages.
Chris Mundy opened the bowling from the bunglow end and promptly removed the opening bat in his first over. Langford continued to pick up wickets but with the arrival of Over Wallops Roy Cavill who set about destroying Langfords bowling attack swatting the ball to all corners of the ground in some what agricultural fashion. Langford at one stage looked like they were going to be chasing 250+ but Cavill popped one up to mid wicket and after this wickets fell at regular intervals with no one really sticking around to push on the score and Langford were 180 to win.
Stuart Partridge and Chris Mundy set about chasing down the total and started brightly with runs coming with relative ease, but with the fall of Partridge for 15 and then Mundy for 5, two more quick wickets left Langford floundering at 38 for 4. The arrival of Simon Ford 64 and Tom Bennet 47 N/O who put on a partnership of 98 to steer Langford nearly home. Ford then played a loose shot and was bowled requiring 23 to win but up stepped the old campaigner Chris Miles who nurdled the ball into the gaps along with Tom Bennet to steer Langford past the winning post, picking up maximum points.

Steeple Langford 206 - 7(23 points) v Redlynch and Hale II 70 - 8(5)
Langford reached 206 at tea thanks to Stuart Partridge 53, Chris Mundy 30 and G Smith 28. Rain effected the game after tea and 10 overs were lost due to rain. The revised target for the visitors was 176 off 32 overs. Redlynch managed 70 for 8 off of the 21.3 overs bowled 2 wickets each for Chris Mundy, Phil Tomkins and Stuart Partridge which meant the result stood much to there disgust!
Thank godness for the covers they managed to win us 23 points today without them the match would have been abandoned for sure.
So a good start for the 1st Team 23 points in the bag onwards and upwards.
30th April
The 2nd XI started the season with maximum points against a strong Shrewton 3rd XI at langford on saturday.
Batting first langford scored 257 for 7 thanks to Clive Perry 83, Simon Ford 41 and Darren harvey 35.
In reply Shrewton started well and appeared to be confident in their run chase. They were stopped dead in their tracks when they lost 4 wickets in 4 balls in the middle of their innings both Simon Ford and Nick Partridge were on hatricks!
Shrewton finally bowled out for 137. Nick Partridge 4 for 46 and Simon Ford 3 for 15.

Th 1st XI confirmed top spot in Regional North West Division 3 on Saturday as their game against Redlynch + Hale II was cancelled due to rain. It means they remain still unbeaten and have bounced back from last seasons relegation at first time of action.
The 2nd XI suffered opposite fortunes as their promotion hopes were smashed as they were defeated by Overton II.
20th August 2010
We'd like to thank all those that put their green tokens in our box last month.
Thanks to everyone's efforts we have earnt £220 from Waitrose. Well done everyone!
20th August 2010
Only 10 more points are needed by our first team to complete the hard work for the season and win their current league.
However, if a game is not possible tomorrow due to the weather - the title will also be confirmed no matter what any other team does in the league!
20th August 2010
The trip to the Rose Bowl went ahead as planned on Tuesday despite weather concerns.
The game was affected by rain, but it soon cleard to allow for an entertaining game in which Hampshire won by 2 wickets.
We hope all who went enjoyed themselves and have dryed out by Saturday...and before you ask - yes we did see you on the TV!
15th August 2010
Both Hampshire League sides were unable to complete their fixtures yesterday due to the shocking weather we had.
This means the 1st XI now need 10 points from their remaining 2 games to wrap up the title whilst Longford Park need maximum points to ensure this.
Meanwhile, the 2nd XI could still gain promotion as they now sit third in the table. They have a crunch game against Overton II next week who they have to beat convincingly to leap frog them in the table.
Despite heavy rain which came in just on the start time the KO cup final between Fovant and Shrewton was played thanks to the new covers!(Reduced to 15 overs each) Fovant run out winners by 9 wickets - Shrewton 70 ao Fovant 71 for 1. Man of the match was Rob Pitman of Fovant with 3 wickets and 24 no.
Losing the KO final was soon forgotten as Shrewton were presented with their league winners medals.
James Haggaty received the batting award for best batting average in 2010 season.
On Sat 31st the 1st XI travelled to Michelmersh and Timsbury II and were made to work hard for their win. Batting first they scored 274 for 8 with captain Tom Dennis leading the way with 74.In reply M and T got within 15 runs thanks to a quick fire 50 in the middle order but Langford continued to take wickets at the right times thanks to Phil Tompkins 2-23 and Luke Stevens 2-35.
Sat 7th Aug saw Wilton as the visitors. Langford scoring 264 for 4 with what must be a club record opening stand of 218 between Stuart Partridge 118 and Nick Mundy 68.
Wilton were skittled for 109 by Luke Stevens who took 6 for 41 including a hatrick(Another tie to buy!)
Sat 31st turned out to be the father and son show as Clive Perry 158 and son Sam 59 piled on the runs against Alderholt. The 2nd's closing on 320 for 4 which must be another record for the club. Alderholt top order had no answer to Patrick Goodmans pace who took 4 for 18 all cleaned bowled and the skipper mopped up the tail with 2 for 23. Alderholt all out 131.
Sat 7th Aug say the 2nds away to Easton and Martyrworthy III at Cheriton. Put into bat on a damp wicket and slow outfield Langford made 177 for 6 thanks to Charlie Burroughs 57, Andy Foyle 30 and some good running in the closing overs from the Thompson family Tucker and Mark.
E and MW got close thanks mainly to the extra six overs bowled due to wides and no balls but the bowlers nerve held and their innings finally closed on 172 for 8. Both Nick Fiddy and Nick Partridge took 3 for 20.
Be quick and sign up for the coach limited seats available.
Thanks to Nigel Mundy who has booked a coach for us we will be going to the Hampshire Hawks pro 40 game against Leicestershire Fox'es on Tues 17th Aug - 16:40 start.Cost is £10(non-refundable)please contact either Nigel on 07870 301831 or Tom Dennis on 07501 069289. 26th July 2010
All three sides were again in action this weekend, but only the firsts came away with a win in what could be described as a disappointing weekend.
The firsts hosted Redlynch & Hale III and skipper Tom Dennis won the toss and decided to bowl.
This looked a good decision, as Chris Mundy took an early wicket to start what was a consistent stream of wickets. Phil Tompkins took 5-10 and youngster Nick Partridge bowled well for his wicket after a promotion from the 2nd XI.
This mean Redlynch finished 88 all out after 34 overs!
Things didn't get off to the best of starts for the hosts when Stuart Partridge and Phil Tompkins went early on. However, the Mundy brothers stepped up to the plate to guide Langford home with 8 wickets in hand to claim 23 points.
*
The 2nd XI didn't have the same success away at Winterslow II, suffering a heavy defeat.
Skipper, Darren Harvey won the toss and put the hosts in and this looked a good decision as the hosts were reduced to 0-2 off 2 overs. However, things didn't continue in this fashion and Winterslow raced along to get 284 - this with the help of 80 extras! Despite this, they were still bowled out in the final over - Darren Harvey claiming 6-56.
After a poor fielding display, Langford were always up against it and it proved this way as they were soon reduced to 75-6. However, a solid partnership from Paddy Goodman and Trev Thompson steadied things, guiding Langford past 150. However, the partnership was soon broken and the tail chipped in to get the total up to 180.
Despite such a heavy defeat, the twos still picked up 11 points!
*
The Sunday side were also in action against touring side Merlin at the weekend and suffered their third defeat on the trot.
Langford batted first and set the visitors 211-4 off 40 overs - Stu Partridge making a half century.
However, after an electric start from Merlin, they always looked to be capable of getting the total despite being slowed down by steady wickets. They closed on 214-6, which meant victory was assured.
24th July 2010
Yesterday's county game hosted by Steeple Langford CC was a success despite doubt over whether it would be on!
Most of Thursday was spent watching the rain come down which left a soacked pitch despite the covers. However, hard work from members of the club ensured the game went ahead as planned!
Wiltshire Under 15 Girls came out on top against a weak Cornwall side.
24th July 2010
Our Under 15s came up against a tough South Wilts side on Monday night and unfortunately met their match.
South Wilts side was muscled up by their big guns who normally represent their Wiltshire League side. This was hard to take for Langford but they played the game in good spirit despite always being up against it.
South Wilts batted first and hit a big score to leave Langford with a lot of work to do and it proved just too much for the side.
After the match our Under 15s were presented with their runners up medals to end a good season for the side!
15th July 2010
Yesterday evening, Aussie tourers, St Kevin's College put on a grand show for all as they comprehensively beat Steeple Langford U15's.
After being put in, they quickly got off to a good start. However, Harry Hart claimed the first wicket - Liam Burnell with the stumping - but this didn't seem to put a stem on the runs.
The whole attack tried to put a hault to the free scoring, but it was to no avail. Peter Macauley claimed two wickets, but it was still for the expense for 43 runs and things looked tough for the hosts.
St Kevin's College finished on 244-4! A huge score!
Langford then went in with the sole aim of batting out the overs and they did just that! Nick Hillier was the stand out, lasting for a long time for his 17. Everyone chipped in for the 86-9 and did themselves credit.
However, it was St Kevin's that stole the show with a truly brilliant performance after the English summer caught them out with a torrential downpour before the game. It was no surprise later on though as players were told they had beaten Gloucs 2nds by 120 runs!
After the game, a presentation took place. Langford presented the visitors with a shirt and signed bat, whilst Langford were presented with a plaque from the visitors. Chris Burnell was also given a tie, whilst Nick Hillier and Peter Macauley earnt caps for their performances.
It was then said that the club was the most welcoming they'd faced and they'd love to come back.
The boys then socialised over a BBQ and a game of football which lasted into the darkness of night when players began to depart at around 10pm.
10th July 2010
With the second team not in action this afternoon, it was all eyes on the first team to see if they could make it 8 wins out of 8, and they did just that as they beat Whiteparish II by 9 wickets.
Langford were forced out into the field first and quickly rose to the task, quickly removing the openers. Both Gary Smith (5-40) and Chris Mundy (2-21) probed away and soon got rewards as wickets soon came.
At drinks, both bowlers had claimed two a piece to leave Whiteparish on 45-4, but this soon looked even worse as Chris Miles joined in the fun, claiming 2-11 to help heap more misery on Whiteparish, whom soon found themselves 82-9 before Luke Stephens wrapped up the last wicket.
This left Langford chasing 84 runs, a simple chase it seemed, but after a straight turn around, Stuart Partridge was gone for a duck, leaving the visitors 0-1. However, this brought man of the moment, Gary Smith to the crease who immediately set to work, working the Whiteparish attack to all parts of the ground. He and opener Nick Mundy made sure victory was assured, steering Langford home for the loss of just the one wicket - Gary scoring 52* whilst Nick anchored the innings with a steady 32*.
This leaves Langford firsts a long way a drift at the top of Regional North-West Three. However, they play second placed Ampfield Crusaders next week in what looks to be a tougher test.
10th July 2010
Tomorrow afternoon, the Under 12 sides of both Wiltshire and Dorset will descend upon Langford Rec for their county clash.
The game is the first of two county colts games to be played at Langford, after the success of the first ever game between Wiltshire and Gwent last season.
The game will start at 1pm.
7th July 2010
The covers the club ordered have now arrived and are ready for action!
Pete and his fellow groundstaff have done a great job in setting them up and we're sure they'll get good use; we are in England!
5th July 2010
The Under 15s today claimed themselvs a place in the Salisbury & District final with a very professional display against Tisbury.
After being put into bat, Langford set about setting their opponents a huge total. Nick Partridge (30*), Nick Fiddy (25*) and Adam McNeilly (25*) all retired for the hosts with other batsmen working around them. This meant 173-3 was posted - a mammoth total!
It was always going to be a tough task for Tisbury and this was made even tougher when opener, Ryan Coker, was bowled by Nick (3-2) Partridge first ball, who claimed two wickets in his first over! More wickets feel quickly, leaving the visitors 3-5! However, the tail did their best to prevent a humiliating performance, with Sophie Taylor impressing at the end.
This wasn't enough though, and Tisbury were bowled out for 28 by a strong Langford side who now face South Wilts in the final on July 19th.
5th July 2010
Yet again, our Hampshire League sides both ran out victorious this weekend.
The 1st XI took on Amport II at the Rec and quickly made an impression on the visitors, bowling them out for 125. This was done in the absence of captain Tom Dennis.
With this low target set, Langford started shakily, Stu Partridge being dismissed for 2. However, they recovered and saw themselves home with 8 wickets in hand. Chris Mundy top scored with 57*, opening instead of his elder brother who was also unable to play over the weekend.
The 2nds also won convincingly, but in a different manner. They batted first against a depleted Michelmersh & Timsbury III XI and struck a huge total. Captain, Darren Harvey hit his maiden century for the club, claiming 128* with others contributing around him. This meant they finished on 264-5.
After tea, Harvey also did the original damage, claiming two wickets in his second over to set the tone for the rest of the innings. Paddy Goodman (2-16) and Nick Partridge (2-20) also struck with a couple of wickets to see Michelmersh off - they were eventually bowled out for 157.
These victories mean both sides gained maximum points in respective games and keeps both sides in sight of promotion.
2nd July 2010
Our Under 15s will face Tisbury at home on Monday in the Salisbury & District League. This is after they finished 2nd in the group stages.
The tie will take place at home on Monday. Start time will be 6pm.
30th June 2010
Our Under 15's side will host a touring Australian side next month for what promises to be an entertaining Twenty20 match at the Rec.
Our Under 15's, who are currently enjoying a successful campaign in the Salisbury & District League, take on St Kevin's College on Wednesday 14th July (6pm start).
The match is St Kevin's penultimate contest in the country before they head back down under; this after visiting a wide range of destinations throughout the South and Midlands.
During the night, there will be a BBQ and the bar will be open. More will be announced over the next few weeks on this site...
30th June 2010
An early start was the order of the day with the England game on at 3pm and that's what happened with Langford's game with Wot Noers commencing straight after the colts finished their morning game!
Langford would bat first, as agreed and did well. Nick Partridge was removed quite early for 10, but this was the only low score. Gary Smith scored 55 before being removed - the last wicket to fall. Tom Stobbs then came in to blitz a quick 59* before being retired and Adam McNeilly completed his maiden 50 for the club with a boundary off the last ball of the innings. This brought his total up to 51 and the teams on to 210-2 off 30 overs.
A 2 hour tea break then took over to see England get hammered by the Germans! Once this had finished, the players retook their places on the pitch for the 2nd innings and Wot Noers always looked to be struggling.
Langford allowed everyone to bowl and wickets were shared around. Simon Hall (2-3) opened well with Mark Thompson (1-22). This set things up for others and Nick Partridge (2-0) made sure things looked bleak.
The last of the batsmen were soon removed and Wot Noers finished on 153 all out. Quite a respectable score - but clearly not a winning one!
30th June 2010
Langford's Under 11 side defeated Tisbury at the weekend in a tight encounter.
This after a close game with South Wilts last week in which our boys were just edged out of a great victory.
30th June 2010
'The hottest weekend of the year' - that's what the national press have been saying. This made winning the toss a captain's dream with such an easy decision to make!
No wonder when Hampton Park won the toss, eyebrows were raised. Surely that wasn't the right decision on such a quick outfield and this incompetence was made to pay by Langford's top order.
Stuart Partridge fell early, but this brought Phil Tompkins to the crease. He, along with opener Nick Mundy made Hampton Park pay with a fine fluency of strokes in a partnership worth 190! This was ended when Tompkins fell for 94, but the damage was done.
After another quick wicket, Tom Dennis took charge with a captain's cameo, scoring 35* off 12 balls in a formidable display of big shots! This left Langford on 279-3 off 42 overs and left Park wondering what they had done!
With such a huge total on the board, confidence was high in the camp as they took the field after tea and wickets soon fell. One brought 2 (as the cliché goes) and Langford soon had their opposition on tenterhooks with a fine display of bowling from their attack; everyone contributing. This led to Park being bowled out for 125, leaving Langford with 24 points and a very happy bar after defeating such a rival!
30th June 2010
With the 2nd XI travelling to lowly Andover VI, this was a game they were backed to win against a youthful side on the Council Pitches of Charlton Sports.
Again, it was a must win toss and skipper Darren Harvey did just that and elected to bat - the right decision.
However, it was Andover that got off to the better start, removing the top 3 quickly, leaving Langford on 33-3. This was quickly changed though, as Tom Dhanji and Darren Harvey (43) played well before Dan Bennett (58) came in to add more runs to the total.
A quick cameo from Will Wilford (27) then got the total close to 200, before Nick Partridge and Liam Burnell got the side over the 200 mark and batted the overs out to end on 209-8.
This looked a tough task for a youthful Andover side, especially after losing 2 quick wickets in the 3rd over. However, they stuck at it, but so did Langford's pace attack, which chipped away at the batting order. Darren Harvey claimed 4-36, with Will Wilford also claiming 3 wickets for the cost of 13 runs. A special mention also goes to youngster J. Richards who hung around to score 58*.
However, this wasn't enough as Andover VI were bowled out for 138 as maximum points were gained!

Yesterday evening, Langford's under 15 side faced South Wilts for the second time in a week and again it proved a close encounter.
With 2 regulars left out of the side, a less familiar side was fielded, but they did themselves proud gaining a tie against the South Wilts side.
Langford won the toss and stand-in skipper, Nick Partridge, decided he would bat first and the got off to a great start. However, when Partridge (28*) retired and Hillier (18) fell shortly after, the run rate dropped to almost a stand still and the great start looked to be almost wasted. Despite this, the rate was picked up towards the end and Langford finished on 110-9.
South Wilts got off to a good start with the bat, but Adam Dhanji claimed the crucial wicket of Ward early on. South Wilts continued to score at a steady rate and had it all to do as the rate rose to just below 8 an over.
However, they were up to the task and played well to leave themselves needing 8 off the last over. A boundary off the first ball left them with less than a run a ball, but a mixture of lay running and good fielding made sure they only scored 1 off the final ball to claim a tie.

Yesterday evening, two of Steeple Langford's sides suffered defeat.
The Under 15s side faced South Wilts at home in the Salisbury & District League. They chased attempted to chase down 128 which was set for them. They were controversially denied victory with 5 balls to spare, being bowled out for 121.
The Tuesday side also suffered defeat as they travelled to Fovant. They restricted Fovant to a relatively low total but were unable to chase it down.
The Under 15s next game will again be against South Wilts on Friday, whilst our 2020 side will next play on Tuesday against The New Inn.
19th June 2010
The club has had a mixed weekend in the Hampshire League today as the 1st team won a crucial game, whilst a youthful 2nd XI lost to Overton II.
The first XI result means they remain top - this after winning by 5 wickets.
The 2nd XI will go down a couple of places after losing by 5 wickets.
17th June 2010
Yet another Under 13 game has been cancelled.
They were today due to travel to Shrewton in the Salisbury & District League, but the game has been postponed.
We hope to get it rearranged in the near future.
15th June 2010
In tonight's Old Sarum Invitation League tie, Steeple Langford ran out quite convincing winners against Boscombe Down.
Batting first, Boscombe Down were limited to 98-6 off their 20 overs. This was down to some very tight bowling, the most notable: Tom Bennett (2-13); Gary Smith (2-19) and Darren Harvey (2-19).
In reply, Steeple Langford never looked like struggling to reach the target set. The victory was complete with 8 wickets in hand and top scorer was Tom Dennie with 50*. Tom Bennett also contributed a notable score of 25.
15th June 2010
Steeple Langford's Under 15 side edged out a determined Shrewton side in a very tight contest last night.
Langford won the toss and decided they'd have first use of the new ball. This looked to be a good decision as both Adam Dhanji and Nick Partridge kept it tight despite a few lapses of concentration in the field. Throughout the innings, Langford continued to pick up regular wickets, Josh Payne, Adam McNeily and Harry Hart all contributing. This kept Shrewton to 79-6 off 20 overs - a gettable score.
It looked that way as both openers, Nick Hillier and Adam Dhanji, got the side off to a good start. However, things soon took a turn for the worst and a mini collapse took place. Wickets continued to stumble and things started becoming difficult.
However, Adam Dhanji came back in at the end and knocked the final few runs off with only 3 balls and 1 wicket remaining to claim an undeserved victory.
15th June 2010
The club is considering running a coach or two down to the day/night game at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday 17th August.
The game is against Leicestershire Foxes and begins at 4.40pm so we'll ned to leave the club in plenty of time.
However, to make it viable, we need people to register their interest with us. Tickets will be at a cost of £15 + the cost of the coach (we are hoping to sign up to a scheme which will allow the club to claim 50% of these sales back).
We need a lot of people to make this viable, so if you're interested please contact Liam Burnell at liamburnell12@hotmail.com

Steeple Langford I shocked a 9-man Thruxton side yesterday afternoon after they romped through their line up to skittle them out for a miserly 38!
After an arranged early start was organised to accomodate England's 7.30pm kick off, it turned out the two sides needn't have bothered as only 34 overs were played and the game was finished by 3.20pm!
Gary Smith, Chris Mundy and Luke Stevens contributed 8 wickets between them to bowl out Thruxton.
This was easily chased down for the loss of just one wicket to maintain a 100% record.

The club has brought a new 42 inch LCD television for its use, especially for the World Cup which has recently kicked off.
We'd like to thank Damien Swift of GoGoDigital for letting us have the TV at a discounted price!

The seconds yesterday only succumbed to their second defeat of the season at the hands of Stockbridge.
Steeple Langford batted first and achieved 173-8 in what could be seen as a team effort. However, Clive Perry batted particularly well and gained much credit.
Unfortunately, Stockbridge maintained a good run rate throughout and despite loosing wickets, crossed the finishing line for the loss of only 5 wickets.
13th June 2010
In one of the clubs annual fixtures, Steeple Langford came out on top in a good humoured game.
Langford batted first and clocked up 158-6. Adam McNeilly scored a valiant 38 at the top of the order. Dave Ullyott also chipped in with 31* as runs were scored all the way down.
This set a decent target and things started well for Langford. Mark Thompson and Simon Hall kept things tight before Adam McNeilly and Tom Stobbs claimed regular wickets.
Norman Atkinson then came on to claim 2 wickets in two balls in what was a game changing bowling change. This left Broomhill Ducks on the ropes and it was left to Liam Burnell to finish the tail end off as he removed Pratt for 82 to claim the game.
Oh, and do remember, anyone that uses one of our umpiring coats from now on, check the pockets...you may be in for a surprise!

Two colts games have been cancelled this week due to different reasons.
The Under 15s were due to play Tisbury on Tuesday but that fell foul to the weather.
The Under 13s also have had a game cancelled. They were due to play Chalke Valley tonight but this game has been cancelled due to other circumstances.
Both games will be rearranged.

Langford's Tuesday night side were unfortunate to be beaten by Berwick St James on Tuesday night.
They were beaten in the Old Sarum Intvitation League tie by a superb innings by James Haggaty.
There next game is tonight against Fovant in the first round of the knockout cup.
6th June 2010
Saturday again saw both of our Hampshire League sides run out victorious against their opposition.
The 1st XI travelled to Barmshaw to take on their 3rds. We batted first and achieved 247-5 which looked a very good score. Nick Mundy contributed 106* whilst Stuart Partridge made 72.
The prediction of it being a good score was soon proved right - Langford bowling their opposition out for 126. Luke Stevens was the stand out bowler, taking 5-57.
The 2nd XI also batted first and made a huge total thanks to a 4th wicket partnership of 193 between Andy Foyle (54) and youngster Nick Fiddy (128). This left them in a good position to press on in the final overs, finishing on 298-5.
This also turned out to be an unbeatable total - Easton + Martyr W III being bowled out for 136. Wickets were shared around but it was again Nick Fiddy who did most of the damage, taking 4-14, in a man of the match performance.
That left both sides collecting maximum points once again to see them both at the right end of the league table at this early stage of the season
4th June 2010
It has been announced that Penton II have withdrawn from Hampshire Regional 4 North-West Division after troubles in fielding a side. This has a direct effect on the 2nd XI who have already played them this season.
There will be some raised eyebrows in the Langford camp as they've lost the 24 points (maximum total) they earnt from the game. This has has a knock on effect on their average and has put them down a place, below Stockbridge.
Tomorrow the 2nd XI are at home to Easton + Martyr Weston III and the 1st XI visit Bramshaw to take on their thirds.
2nd June 2010
The Under 15 Salisbury District game between South Wilts and Steeple Langford has been rearranged for Friday 25 June.

Tonight's Old Sarum Intivitation League Clash between Steeple Langford and Shrewton has been called off due to rain.
Steeple Langford's next game will be next Tuesday when they host Berwick St James.
31st May 2010
Usually the annual bank holiday weekend fixture against Trinity is a tough one. They bring a strong side and it usually provides a close game. It looked that way after the first ball as well, Tom Stobbs being clean bowled.
However, things soon picked up, Gary Smith (65) and Nick Partridge (40) brought the total up with cameos form Stuart Emm (27*) and Stuart Partridge (18). This brought Langford to a total of 183-7, a respectable score.
After tea, Trinity showed some tough resistence through their openers. However, Nick Partridge got the breakthrough for the side - claiming Mike Woodhouse for 1. This started a whole flow of wickets falling around the other opener, Alex Gibbs, who was eventually removed through a brilliant catch by Gary Smith.
With that wicket, things were basically all over for the visitors, and they were eventually bowled out for 98 - Nathan Hill claiming 2-18 and Adam McNeilly 3-18.

We have launched our very own prediction competition to celebrate this years World Cup in South Africa.
Entry is £3 and all you have to do is pick 1 team from each Pot (as shown on the entry forms) and also predict the number of goals scored - this will be for tie break purposes.
Your 4 teams will then score points for how they perform, but be careful, because those teams with a poor disciplinary record will lose some of the point they have won!
Teams can be submitted, along with an entry fee, to Chris or Liam Burnell, or placed with Pete behind the bar.
May the best predictor win!
29th May 2010
Both Hampshire League games due to be played this weekend were called off due to the horrible conditions experience over the weekend.
This means both the 1st and 2nd XI's keep their current averages and also their current positions in their leagues (1st and 2nd respectively)
27th May 2010
This week saw Steeple Langford's Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 sides all run out victorious against Tisbury in the Salisbury & District League.
On Sunday 23rd, the Under 11s travelled to Tisbury on the back of a heavy defeat to South Wilts. However, they made amends for this and came back with a good win.
Then on the Tuesday, the Under 15s put on a good display in their opening game of the season. Batting second, they bowled Tisbury out for 60 with help from Adam McNeilly (5-6). They then chased this down within 8 overs for the loss of 0 wickets. Adam Dhanji top scored with 25*.
To complete the treble, the Under 13s took on Tisbury that Thursday and again won quite convincingly. They bowled Tisbury out for 61 and chased it down, again for the loss of no wickets completing the rout.
25th May 2010
Despite Tisbury arriving late they got off to a fine start, partly due to some excellent batting by R.Coker (retired 26 n.o.) and some poor fielding by Langford.
After 8 overs Tisbury were 48 for 1 when R.Coker retired, they then slumped to 60 all out in the next 10 overs. This was due to some fine bowling and improved fielding by Langford, especially A.McNeilly who ended on bowling figures 3ov, 6 runs, 5 wickets. It needs to be mentioned that McNeilly had his first ball hit for 6 then the next 17 were scoreless plus the 5 wickets. Other bowlers pitched in, H.Hart taking 2 wickets off his three overs.
Langford were set 61 to win and A.Dhanji and N.Hillier set a steady pace. Despite some excellent bowling by R.Coker and J.Chatman they steadily knocked off the runs. A.Dhanji retired on 25 runs, but N.Fiddy continued the steady pace, hitting the winning runs after 7.3 overs, both Fiddy and Hillier finished on 14.
An excellent result - well done to all the lads and thanks to Tate Mayoh as 12th man for keeping the scores.
22nd May 2010
On a hot, dry day, all everyone hoped was that 2nd XI captain would win the toss...but did he? No, instead Langford were forced to field in the heat, but this didn't effect them too badly.
The opening bowlers, Gary Smith and Chris Mundy kept it tight to start with and Mundy picked up an early scalp. However, J. Underwood and L. Gostelow managed to give the visitors a position from where they could propel themselves forward - steering them to 70-1.
Darren Harvey got the crucial breakthrough, trapping Gostelow LBW for 21. This was followed be a flurry of 5 wickets for 13 runs, which included a Stewart Partridge hat-trick!
Langford continued to bowl well in the hot conditions, but a battling patnership for the 9th wicket saw Winterslow progress past 150. Liam Burnell then came on as sub fielder and made a howler of things, letting the ball through him for four after a wicked bobble. As if this wasn't bad enough, he then threw the ball back over his shoulder and over the fence when retrieving it, much to the amusement of everyone else!
The final wicket fell off the last ball of the innings - youngster Harries finally falling to Chris Mundy, caught by Darren Harvey.
165 was the target, and things started off shockingly for the home side. Trev Thompson was bowled by a beautiful in-swinging yorker as he faced the first ball of the innings and Charlie Burroughs followed him two balls later as he was trapped LBW - 0-2!
This didn't last though as Clive Perry and Gary Smith built a beautiful partnership of 126, with Gary eventually falling for 26. But with the winning post in site, Clive Perry took his score past 100 with yet another 6 - the same style in which he passed his 50 - and it was pretty much game over. Perry hitting the winning run with 17 overs to spare!
21st May 2010
The Under 15 Salisbury Ditrict side has been recently selected with 3 of our under 15 side making the grade for the 14 man squad.
Under 15's captain, Liam Burnell, has been selected for his wicket keeping, whilst his fellow counterparts, Nick Fiddy and Nick Partridge, have been picked for the squad for both their bowling and batting ability.
Well done to all three boys for getting into the squad and we wish them luck for their forthcoming season with the side.
21st May 2010
After the news of the 1st team's fixture cancellation they will go into this weekend knowing they'll maintain their maximum points average of 24. Only Broughton can top this if they manage to gain another set of maximum points in their fixture tomorrow.
With the 1st XI gameless, the 2nd XI will be the only side getting a run out over the weekend when they host Winterslow II. The 2nds are currently sitting 3rd in the table on the back of 2 convincing wins - both times bowling their opponents out for less than 70. Captain Darren Harvey will be hoping to maintain good recent form with the ball, claiming 4-11 in both games, to help his side to another win. However, this game won't be a formality as Winterslow are more than capable of causing problems.
Also gameless are the Sunday XI, whose next game is on Bank Holiday Monday against Trinity.
