2nd XI v Michelmersh & Timsbury II away

Mich & Tims 200 for 5 - SLCC 202 for 2

Another good win for the Steeple Langford 2nd team yesterday. Michelmersh & Timsbury chose to bat first and scored 200 for 5 off their 40 overs. The Langford bowling was better than the score suggests with numerous edges, false shots and dropped catches. Five of the six bowlers used taking a wicket each.
In reply, Tom Stobbs (75) and Chris Miles (35) put on 105 for the first wicket by the 20 over drinks break. This left Will Lewis (48*) and Tony Gipson (14*) to bring home the bacon in the 35th over for an emphatic 8 wicket win.

2nd XI v Collingbourne Ducis at home

SLCC 218 - Collingbourne 222 for 5

Langford 2nd XI v Collingbourne. Top of the league and unbeaten Collingbourne won the toss and elected to field. Double figure runs from all batsmen to finish, after the full 40, with 218 for Collingbourne to chase. Two maiden openers from Will Lewis and Tom Stobbs and with a wicket falling in the first 5 Langford were off to a great start. After 12 overs Langford had suppressed the visitors to 35 runs. Collingbourne found their stride and despite some acrobatic fielding Langford were just not able to quell the run-rate. At 21 overs Collingbourne had made 118. Even Hatch ‘the dispatch’, despite his recent form, couldn’t break the spell. Respite nearly came when the Skipper gave Jayden Phelps the nod. With 6 overs remaining and Collingbourne needing 19 to win the odds were impossible. Jayden ‘the maiden’ arrested the run rate with the third maiden of the match assisted by Hatch. In four overs Collingbourne were confined to 10 runs. Phelps bowled another maiden and took a wicket with Will Lewis collecting the on-drive comfortably. Collingbourne 222 for 5 off of 38.

2nd XI v Totton & Eling III away

Not quite so good for the Langford 2nd team yesterday. Batting first Langford scored 148 for 8 off their 40 overs helped by a solid opening stand of 70 by Adi Hughes (41) and Chris Miles (25). In response the Langford bowlers huffed and puffed but only 1 wicket went down before Totton & Eling knocked off the runs required. That was a stunning one handed catch high above Ben Hatt’s already high head. Try again next week.
