Maximum Points at Hungerford!

6 June 2011

On a hot afternoon in Hungerford, Steeple Langford captain Tom Dennis lost the toss and his side were put in on what looked a wonderful batting track. Steeple Langford's opening pair took their time and looked steady early in the innings but the returning Tom Stobbs was sent back to a pavilion leaving them 52-1 in the 11th over. Gary Smith then contributed a quick fire 22 before being run out off the bowlers boot whilst backing up. Martin Grearson then came to the crease, and put together a partnership of 153 with Stuart Partridge and began to take the game away from the home team before Grearson eventually fell for 89 with the score at 277 off 32 overs. The 36th over saw the eventual downfall of Stuart Partridge for a season best of 133, but a partnership of 66 from Tom Bennett (60*) and Tom Dennis (17*) ensured Hungerford were set a massive 378. The reply for the home side did not start well finding themselves 25-3 from 8 overs, after a good spell of bowling from openers Chris Mundy (1-37) and Gary Smith (2-32). However Steeple Langford did find some resistance in the middle order until breakthroughs were made by Luke Stephens (2-36) and youngster Patrick Goodman who produced an exceptional 4-16 to leave Chris Miles to finish the Hungerford innings a full 243 runs behind and ensure Langford 24 points.
