1st XI Match Report - 30th May 2015

County Division 4 North – Steeple Langford 1st XI v Bentworth

Steeple Langford 1st XI maintained their 100% winning record with a 10 wicket home hammering of an 8 man Bentworth. Put into bat, the away team were unable to cope with Steeple Langford’s opening bowlers, Gary Smith and Nick Partridge, who took advantage of the overhead conditions to not only gain a prodigious amount of swing but also bowl with great control and accuracy . Only Chenney attempted to attack the bowling with a creditable 22 not out from the visitor’s paltry 51 all out in the 21st over, with Smith ending up with an excellent 4 for 15 from his 10 overs and Partridge 2 for 17 from his 7. With tea still being prepared, Steeple Langford went straight out to bat and openers Adi Hughes and skipper Andy Bennett were keen to ensure there were no hiccups gaining the win. This they did, reaching the required score in only the 7th over, with Hughes once again in confident mood hitting an unbeaten 24 and Bennett ending on 9 not out. This maximum points haul ensured that Steeple Langford went clear at the top of the league.
