1st XI Match Report vs Colden Common - 23rd May 2015

Steeple Langford 1st XI made it 3 wins out of 3 with an excellent 5 wicket win away to Colden Common. Fielding a weakened team due a wedding in the club, Langford were asked to field first and picked up their first wicket in the second over courtesy of Gary Smith. There then followed a stand of 54, although Nick Partridge bowled a great pacey opening spell with little luck, before Tom Bennett made the breakthrough. Soon after, opener Perkis went for 36 after riding his luck on a number of occasions and wickets then fell at regular intervals to the excellent bowling of young Liam Harvey who bowled a great spell taking 2 for 11 from his 5 overs, including that of Perkis and the home side’s main contributor Watts who scored a fine 77. The innings ended on 160 all out with Partridge ending with 2 for 26 from his 10 overs and skipper Andy Bennett 3 for 16. In reply Langford lost an early wicket before Andy Bennett shared stands of 45 with Adam McNeilly (15) and Stu Partridge (22). Bennett then fell for a patient 51 before Nick Partridge (18), Tom Bennett 30 not out and Gary Smith 14 not out comfortably saw the away side home to victory.
