1st XI Match Report 11th June 2016

Compton & Chandlers Ford 2nd XI v Steeple Langford 1st XI

A confident Steeple Langford 1st XI  travelled to Compton & C Ford on the back of last week’s league win and with an unchanged side. This proved justified after skipper Andy Bennett asked the home team to bat with Langford’s bowlers getting plenty of bounce from the wicket, some of it variable. None of the batsmen looked comfortable despite spending time at the crease and Haigh (31) and Lawrence (42*) dug in to make valuable contributions to the final score of 148 for 8. All of Langford’s bowlers were excellent, the pick being Luke Stephens (3 for 36), Nick Partridge (2 for 22) and Tom Bennett (2 for 32). In reply, Steeple Langford lost a customary early wicket but Martin Grearson and Adam McNeilly (13) steadied things with a stand of 36 before Grearson was trapped in front by a shooter for a dominating 37 out of the score of 45. The middle order then collapsed, losing 4 wickets for only 9 runs due to what can only be described as rash and very poor shot selection. Gary Smith (18) and Andy Bennett (16) then looked comfortable putting on 37 for the 7th wicket before both fell in quick succession, hitting poor balls straight to fielders for simple catches. The rest of the innings then folded and the last 4 wickets fell for 8 runs to leave Steeple Langford on a pitiful 118 all out against a very mediocre bowling attack. Murray took 3 for 24 and Gray 3 for 14 for the home side. It’s probably a good thing that Langford now have a Saturday off which will hopefully be spent having batting practice!!!!!!
