Hursley Park 2nd XI v Steeple Langford 1st XI

Steeple Langford’s poor form with the bat continued resulting in a 21 run defeat away at Hursley Park. Electing to bowl first, a much-weakened Langford side took an early wicket with the returning Nick Partridge bowling with pace and swing. However, they rued dropping opener Bacon 3 times in the gully, all off the frustrated Luke Stephens, and he went on to make 50. At 95 for 2, Hursley looked set for a decent score but the introduction of Tom Bennett and skipper Andy Bennett  took the pace off the ball and they skittled through the home side’s batting to dismiss them for 146, with only Best (26) making any valuable contribution. Tom finished with an excellent 4 for 24 from 9.3 overs and Andy 3 for 10 from 5. In reply, the Bennett’s opened the batting for Langford and looked comfortable putting on 38 in 10 overs before Andy was trapped before for 10. Tom was then joined by Adam McNeilly and they put on 30 before he was caught in the deep in the 19th over for a fine 46. McNeilly went soon after for 12 and the away side then lost another 4 wickets for only 9 runs. Partridge and Pete Smith then steadied the ship and again looked in no trouble putting on 27 before Partridge went for an iffy second run and was run out for 25. The remaining wickets fell cheaply as Smith was left stranded on 18 not out and the innings capitulated to a very disappointing 125 all out, Green being the pick of the Hursley bowlers taking 4 for 26 from his 10 overs.
