Steeple Langford 1st XI v South Wilts 3rd XI

Steeple Langford 1sts returned to winning ways with a comfortable 6 wicket home win against South Wilts 3rds. Opting to bat first, South Wilts had a steady start before losing their first wicket with the score on 28. Henry Smith and Rowe then put on 55 before Rowe was trapped in front, bringing Kidd to the crease to try and up the run rate. The third wicket stand put on 97 but they never really dominated the steady Langford bowling and Kidd fell for 51 in the 42nd over. After an attempted late flurry, the innings closed on 203 for 5 with Smith carrying his bat throughout the innings for a creditable unbeaten 78. Steeple Langford were disappointed with a bit of a lacklustre bowling and fielding display but were still happy with the score they were set to chase – Nick Partridge was the pick of the attack taking 3 for 34 from his 10 overs. In reply, the home side had a confident start with Martin Grearson and Tom Bennett (33) putting on a comfortable 65 for the opening stand. Grearson then had stands of 39 with Adam McNeilly and 44 with Chris Mundy before being bowled for a fine 72. Langford maintained the required run rate with little difficulty and a stand of 38 between Mundy (38) and Partridge pretty much sealed the win. However, a confident Partridge ended the game with a flourish hitting 3 sixes in 5 balls to finish on 32 not out and seeing Steeple Langford home with just over 4 overs to spare.
