1st XI Match Report 4th June 2016

Steeple Langford 1st XI v Littleton & West Hill 1st XI

A strengthened Steeple Langford 1st XI recorded their first  league win with a 3 wicket home victory  against Littleton & West Hill 1st XI. On winning the toss, the away team had no hesitation in batting first on another excellent Langford track. The openers made a cautious start against some accurate bowling, putting on 40 before the introduction of Chris Mundy and Luke Stephens took 2  quick wickets. Opener O’Brien (50) and Frizwell, with a hard hit 26, then put on 40 before Frizwell tried one big shot too many. Wickets then fell at regular intervals although Anscombe (30) and Cook (47) batted well to take Littleton to 210 for 9 from their 45 overs. Langford bowled well throughout with Nick Partridge (2 for 42), Mundy (3 for 35) and skipper Andy Bennett (2 for 24) being the pick. In reply, Steeple Langford had a disastrous start losing 2 wickets in the first over to an excellent opening spell from Dibben (2 for 15 from 10). Opener Martin Grearson and Chris Mundy then looked to rebuild and after consolidating, soon started playing their shots, punishing any loose bowling. The partnership had progressed to an excellent 145 when Mundy was caught for a well crafted 52. Grearson was bowled soon after for a classy 89 and then the home side stuttered, losing 3 more wickets before the Smith brothers guided them home, Gary hitting the winning runs off the first ball of the last over to end on a fine unbeaten 43.  Cook ended with 4 for 39 from a very good 10 over spell.
