2nd XI Match Report - 6th June 2015

STEEPLE LANGFORD II v THRUXTON

After last week’s disappointing performance the Langford 2nds were determined to make amends. At 106 for 1 in the 22nd over a big score looked on the cards but the loss of Chris Miles (53) and Nick Mundy (38) in close succession led to an all too familiar batting collapse. It was one of those days where everybody seemed to play a good shot to the boundary before somehow managing to get themselves out the very next ball. The innings finished on 166 all out which all agreed was around 50 runs short on what was a good pitch.

As it turned out the Langford score was probably more like 150 runs short as despite an early wicket the Thruxton batsman chased down the score with ease. The target was reached in just the 25th over thanks to a 153 run partnership between Knight (102 n.o.) and Yates (50). Knight in particular tucked in to the Langford bowlers with the ball disappearing over the short leg boundary for six all too often. Only Darren Harvey’s bowling (2/32) threatened to stem the tide.

Another chastening experience for the Langford players.
