2nd XI Match Report - 27th June 2015

STEEPLE LANGFORD II v DINTON II

After last weekend’s rest day due to an odd number of teams in the league, the Langford Lions were keen to get back in to the swing of things. Matt Pieterse captained due to Rob Emm’s poorly pinkie. Even so the toss was once again lost with the Dinton captain electing to bat. Runs flowed freely from the start with all the bowlers struggling to put together more than two or three good balls an over. Chris Miles swung one viciously to bowl the opener Allan (25) but this only brought Gale to the crease who settled in for the rest of the innings eventually finishing not out on 127. Dave Haugh bowled tidily (1 for 32 from 8 overs) but otherwise all the bowlers got a caning as Dinton amassed 264 for 4.

The Langford response started well with Simon (Cinderella) Ford playing aggressively from the start as a consequence of having to leave early. His controlled hitting ensured that Langford were always up with, or ahead of the asking rate but unfortunately wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end. When Ford was out for 50 just after the first drinks break it looked all over but a 9th wicket partnership of 70 between Chris Miles and Nathan Hill made Dinton sweat a little. Miles (21) finally succumbed with Dave Haugh following the very next ball to leave Hill unbeaten on 48 just missing out on his maiden Saturday 50 for the second time this season. Langford were all out for 182 in the 31st over.

Another disappointing day. Who knows whether this was due to the short boundary on one side, lack of match practice due to no game last week, or just being weighed down by the rock buns at tea; however, better is hoped for next week.
