2nd XI Match Report - 30th May 2015

Having spent most of the week trying to get a team together and with only nine men being available from the start, Langford captain Rob Emm was pleased to be invited to bat having lost the toss.   That feeling was to evaporate quickly as the Knights Valley opening bowlers (3/18 and 5/31) proceeded to remove the Langford batsman with alarming regularity.   Langford’s 10th and 11th players eventually arrived either side of 3o/c just in time to go into bat only to come out again shortly after.  A poor overall batting performance ended with Langford 65 all out in the 22nd over with only Rob Emm (10) and Matt Pieterse (11) making double figures and extras (14) being the highest score.

Given the early end to the first innings tea wasn’t ready so Knights Valley decided to begin the chase.  The home team’s opener (36) adopted a somewhat aggressive batting approach swinging at every ball.  Some good shots soared to the boundary while some others were fortunate to avoid the fielders.  Langford’s bowlers eventually managed to remove three batsmen (Dave Haugh 2/16, Matt Pieterse 1/2) but were never really in the contest.  Knights Valley reached the target in the 12th over.

Match lost, everyone changed, tea eaten and back at the Langford club by 6o/c – not the best of performances.
