A Tie..... 1st XI Match Report 5th August

Saturday saw Langford entertain Amport in an eventful game. After 2 weeks off due to the wet weather, Langford were keen to play some cricket and look to avoid the drop. On a damp looking wicket, Amport didn't hesitate in inserting a run shy Langford team. Starting in a cautious manner, Nick Mundy and Gary Smith set the platform with both making it to drinks with the score on 74. However, drinks brought the wicket of Gary Smith 54 before leading to a flurry of wickets and a shift in momentum. Adam McNeilly 38 counter attacked well and formed mini-partnerships with the lower order to help scramble to a competitive 176.

Langford knew that wickets were key in restricting the run chase and Gary Smith obliged removing the opener. Amport had other ideas though and raced along with M Hickman and N Birks scoring 35 and 39 respectively. Darren Harvey halted the chase removing Hickman before taking another 3 wickets to turn the momentum back in Langfords favour. Nick Partridge assisted Harvey and removed 2 more to put the home side in the driving seat. Momentum swung  back Amport's way with a 10th wicket partnership and in doing so creeping towards the finish line. With Amport 9 down and the scores level Chris Mundy removed A Early to force an unlikely draw and clinch some much needed points in their relegation battle.

Next week sees Langford make the trip to table toppers Odiham and look to move away from the relegation zone.
