2018 season summary

End of season Cricket club news

Both the Junior and adult sections incorporated their end of season presentations into fun day T20 matches on Sat 1st Sept. The juniors played against their dads in a keenly contested encounter this game signalling the end of a successful season for the U9, U11 and 13 teams who all completed in the Wiltshire Youth Cricket League. Unfortunately we did not have the numbers to run an U15 team in the league managing just a few friendlies during the season. The junior section continues to flourish with over 60 signed up for coaching on Wednesday evenings.

The adults game followed on and once concluded everybody tucked in to yet another Sandy McNeilly BBQ.

Both the Saturday teams had a torrid time in the Hampshire League. The 1st XI winning only once and finishing 3rd from bottom while the 2nd XI won twice and finished 2nd bottom. We really did struggle to find 22 players some weeks and unfortunately this lack of players was reflected in the results. My thanks go to the captains who spent so much time chasing around for players and our younger and part time members who turned out when requested.

The Tuesday T20 team finished mid table with 4 wins whilst the Sunday friendly team games were fun and again allowed the youngsters valuable experience of adult cricket.

The club again showcased the ground by putting on county games for Wiltshire Cricket Limited when Dorset U12’s in May and Devon U10’s in June visited Wiltshire – Wilts won both games.

At the other end of the scale Wiltshire Over 70’s entertained Hertfordshire on Aug 2nd the game being played at an altogether slower pace. For the record Wiltshire won with former Hanging Langford resident Tim Lerwell scoring 50 retired.

As usual the ground had that well kept look all season despite the lack rain and the pitches played really true.

The club committee are already putting plans in place for next season with the emphasis on player retention and improving availability. The AGM will take place on Mon 21st January 2019 start 19:30 at the club all are welcome.
