Langford gatecrash the pyjama party

After last week's disappointment (losing to South Newton), Langford hosted the pyjama boys (Fovant), which usually doesnt end well in terms of results for Langford.

Tom Bennett lost the toss and on a nice sunny evening was invited to bowl. Matt Dhanji and Liam Harvey opened and after a steady start Matt Dhanji had Boatwright caught. Rob Pitman and Tom Pearce then took to the Langford attack with Pitman retiring for 53* and the score well poised for a big one at 92-2 off 10.

However, Langford had different ideas, Stephens came on and bowled a good line and length and no full tosses as against South Newton the week previously, Alec Lloyd supported near the end and Stephens ended with 3-17 off his 4 overs, a fantastic display, but the real drama was yet to unfold. Hamblin brought on for the last few overs started with a wicket, a drive to Ford at cover, next ball, cleaned bowled their no.9, no.10 walks in and hat trick ball, Hamblin clean bowls him with an off cutter and jubilant Langford had their tails up whilst Hamblin was loving his Hat trick (which he talked about at school the next day!!) the 4th ball of his spell Pitman was run out so he ended with 3-0 off 4 balls, leaving Fovant on 129 all out.

Langford sent in Gary "Drive" Smith and Tom Bennett to attack a modest total at Langford. Smith immediately showing intent by bungalowing the first ball. The score ticked along well with the rate but then Smith departed for 28, bringing in Alec Lloyd with the skipper, Tom Bennett who admits himself it wasn't his quickest knock was dispatching the bad ball and the pair were running singles, however Lloyd was caught for 8 bringing in Ford, who was more than happy to let Bennett control the strike and manoeuvre singles. Bennett was dropped on 49 and ran through for a single to retire, leaving 36 off the last 7 overs. Tom Dennis came and went for 1, being run out then Emm left for the same score. Pete Smith was in next and he and Ford ran singles, striking the occasional 4 leaving the scores tied in the 19th over, Ford missed the first one, got dropped on the second and then steered the 3rd ball for 4, ensuring a great win for Langford, Ford finishing on 13* and Smith 8*. Pyjama Party well and truly crashed!!
