Langford on a role... 1st XI Match Report 3rd June

Saturday saw Langford make the trip to Hungerford and look to continue their upturn in form. Skipper Stephens lost the toss and was asked to field on what looked to be a batsman friendly track. Langford made the ideal start with Nick Partridge removing both openers with a lively and accurate opening spell. However, Hungerford continued to play their shots and look to put the Langford attack on the back foot. Wickets continued to tumble though with Tom Bennett and Alex Penny picking up D.Hawkins 36 and C.Thorp 26. Luke Stephens also got in on the act taking two wickets late in the innings and returning with figures of 2-2. Partridge wrapped up the Hungerford innings with 134 on the board, removing K.Powell 32 and finishing with 3-39. Alex Penny 3-30 and Tom Bennett 2-31 were the other picks of the Langford attack.

In reply, Langford made the worse possible start with Nick Mundy adjudged  to be LBW  to Lauren Bell 1-38 without troubling the scorers. This brought Chris Mundy to the crease, he set about chasing the small target along with Gary Smith. The latter had an early reprieve but took advantage batting in a typically uncompromising style, despatching any loose delivery to the rope. Both men saw their team home with Gary Smith the stand-out making 84 Not Out. Chris Mundy ably assisting with 38 not out. Langford registering an impressive 9 wicket win and securing a maximum 24 points.
