County Division 4 North – Steeple Langford 1st XI v Dinton 1st XI

Steeple Langford 1st XI maintained their place to finish second in County Division 4 North with a 6 wicket win over local rivals Dinton. On winning the toss, Langford skipper Andy Bennett asked Dinton to bat and they were soon in trouble at 15 for 3 with the Langford openers Gary Smith and Nick Partridge swinging the ball both ways. Away team skipper Pearce (36) and Middlecote (28) then steadied the ship, putting on 61 before Liam Harvey picked up the first of his 2 wickets by dismissing Pearce. Tom Bennett was then introduced into the attack and he removed the remaining 5 batsmen to finish with remarkable figures of 5 for 6 off his 3 overs. Smith also finished with a fine return of 2 for 17 from his 10 overs and Dinton were all out for 117 in 35 overs. In reply, for the first time in a number of weeks, the Langford top order failed to leave them in the precarious position of 35 for 4, mainly due to Hannaford taking 3 wickets. However, Chris Mundy and Nick Partridge (27*) calmed any nerves by knocking off the remaining runs in a solid and composed stand of 85 to see the home side home with 18 overs to spare. Mundy rounded off a fine season with the bat by finishing on an unbeaten 53. With the top side Compton & Chandlers Ford 2nds game being abandoned due to rain it meant Steeple Langford had to settle for second place but still gained automatic promotion.
