Mundy and Penny get the winning run going - 1st XI Match Report 27th May

Langford vs Michelmarsh and Timsbury

Saturday saw a 10-man Langford get back to winning ways with an emphatic 24 point win over Michelmarsh and Timsbury. Langford won the toss and chose to bat on a typically flat wicket. Michelmarsh started well restricting the Langford openers to few scoring opportunities before removing both openers, leaving Langford 28-2. This brought Alex Penny and Chris Mundy to the crease, they set about building Langford a large total. Penny showed his intentions from the start despatching the Michelmarsh attack to the rope on numerous occasions. Penny finally fell for a destructive 75 from just 46 deliveries. Mundy continued to keep the score board ticking over before reaching an excellent 102 Not Out and setting Michelmarsh the unenviable task of chasing 242. The pick of the Michelmarsh attack were Lyons and Loescher who finished with 2-38 and 2-24 respectively.

In reply Langford started well with Gary Smith removing the dangerous Hurle first ball of the innings. Langford continued to restrict Michelmarsh taking wickets at regular intervals with tight bowling. Only blemish for Langford was the complacent fielding display with a number of catches dropped. Langford finally wrapped up the Michelmarsh innings with an emphatic 132 run victory. The standout performances of the Langford attack were Smith 4-28, Liam Harvey 3-10 and a fine all-round display by Penny 2-20.
