1st XI match report 16th May

County Div 4 North SLCC v Mottisfont

Steeple Langford 1st XI made it 2 wins out of 2 with a comfortable 5 wicket win at home against Mottisfont. On winning the toss, the away skipper had no hesitation in opting to bat first on a hard flat track and they made a steady start putting on 37 for the 1st wicket before Luke Stephens bowled Hancock for 20. Wickets then fell at regular intervals with only Husbands (28) and opener Bradwell,  who batted through most of the innings for a patient 64, causing the home team any problems and the innings closed on 179 for 7. The pick of the Langford bowlers was again Luke Stephens who bowled a great spell taking 3 for 18 off his 10 overs and skipper Andy Bennett chipped in with 2 for 23 from 7 overs bowling at the death. In reply, Langford opener Adi Hughes made his intentions clear by immediately taking the attack to the bowlers, being dismissed for a quick-fire 28 in the 8th over. Langford then lost 2 quick wickets before Chris Mundy and Tom Dennis steadied the innings before Dennis was bowled for a patient 21. Mundy then shared stands of 50 with Nick Partridge (a hard-hitting 29) and 48 with Gary Smith (a nicely crafted unbeaten 21) to see Langford home for the loss of 5 wickets and the best part of 4 overs to spare. Once again, Mundy looked solid and ended on an excellent 57 not out, to follow up his unbeaten 65 from the previous week.
