Tuesday evening league match report

Tues 1st May

After a promising season last year, Steeple Langford started their 2018 campaign at home against newly formed Salisbury Wanderers.

Langford bowled first, with Luke Stephens (20/1 off 4 overs) opening the bowling and taking the important wicket of M. Gurung (31), who looked to be striking the ball well. However, as the Wanderers started to put on runs, D. Pirie (50*), tight bowling from Darren Harvey (20/0 off 2 overs) and J. Corden (31/0 off 4 overs) helped to restrict the visitors to 85/1 off 12 overs. For the final 8 overs, M. Dhanji (28/0 off 4 over) bowled a tight spell together with A. Lloyd (18/2 off 4 overs) bowling an impressive spell to end the first innings 140/3 off the 20 overs.

Langford got off to a great start with openers A. Lloyd and T. Bennett hitting a respectable 53 off of the first 9 overs. However, after realising we were behind the run rate, the openers hit an impressive 18 runs off the 10th over to get us back into the game. This eventually lead to T. Bennet (50*) and A. Lloyd (50*) both retiring. Sadly, things took a turn for the worse with wickets falling very quickly, and Langford needing a nail biting 12 runs off the last 12 balls. However, things did not go our way, as we came up 3 runs short.

Disappointing not to get over the line, however there are lots of positives to take onto next week’s game against our bitter rivals Fovant!!!
